Instead of heading toward Blackwater Falls proper, head toward the Blackwater Lodge. Park in the parking area for Blackwater Lodge near the left edge of the lodge (if you’re viewing it from the front). If you walk just a few feet from the parking lot, you should find the trail leading to the falls. Starting at the Blackwater Falls Lodge, head to the left side of the parking lot, where a trailhead becomes visible. Follow the clearly marked trail down until you reach a bridge which goes over the top of the falls.

Take a break and let these 2021-03-07 · We hiked four trails at Blackwater Falls in the 18 hours we were there. The Elakala Trail was a bit rough with lots and lots of protruding roots and stones.

The Elakala Falls are quite close, so you could do a very short trip to view the falls and then back. The falls are fed by Shay Run, and like all the streams and rivers of the area, feature "black" water due to high levels of tannins.

At this point, you are directly above the only named waterfall in the drainage, the Falls of Elakala. Most people probably content themselves to look down upon the falls from here. Cross the bridge and find a use trail leading down into the drainage.

We heard there was another waterfall in the park called Elakala Falls so we went searching for it. Parking at the Blackwater Lodge there is a trail that will lead you right to the falls. Elakala Falls has a bridge built right above it so it is easy to miss! Because of the lower water levels we were able to walk down to the base of the falls.

Elakala Falls is actually a series of 4 distinct waterfalls on Shays Run as it descends into Blackwater Canyon. Elakala Falls #1, pictured above, is easy to reach by a short trail and is usually what people are referring to when they speak of Elakala Falls.
