Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) in the Attenuated Total Reflectance mode (ATR) was used to investigate the structural and conformational changes of the ethylene glycol and benzene moieties of PET. Amorphous and crystalline PET membranes were used as substrate.

Positron emission tomography (PET) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) have been used in a limited number of clinical situations and provide additional information about physiologic changes that routine cross-sectional imaging techniques cannot detect. The carbon atoms in PET are present in three chemical states, which are reflected in the three peaks of the XPS spectrum. The two methods of preparation result in different conformations of the polymer, which also affects the spectrum by shifting the (-O-C-) peak slightly. The potential of Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy for characterizing polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fibers is examined both from a practical and a theoretical view point. Problems associated with sample preparation, spectral data analysis, and refraction and reflection at the fiber surfaces are discussed.

FDG-PET, along with MR imaging, is a key technique used to assess for malignant transformation in the setting of NF-1 based on a sensitivity of 0.89 (95% CI, 0.76–0.96) and a specificity of 0.95 (95% CI, 0.88–0.98) in this patient population.

TA-FTIR has been used to characterize phase transitions by a change in the absorbance or peak position with temperature in thermal cycling. The objective of this single-centre retrospective study was to define the power of MRI, PET scan and NMR spectroscopy to establish a decision tree. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study included patients who underwent stereotactic radiation therapy for brain metastases, and required, during follow-up, both a PET scan and NMR spectroscopy in order to differentiate a radiation necrosis and tumour recurrence. 1999-04-01 Fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (18 F-FDG PET) could detect neuronal function and activity of the injured brain, while MR spectroscopy provides complementary information and assesses metabolic irregularities following injury.

The role of this procedure is to detect metabolically active malignant lesions including lung cancer, colorectal cancer, lymphoma, melanoma, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, brain cancer and multiple myeloma. The correlations of the hydroxyl and carboxyl units were derived independently for accurate calibration results. Positron emission tomography (PET) is a functional imaging technique that uses radioactive substances known as radiotracers to visualize and measure changes in metabolic processes, and in other physiological activities including blood flow, regional chemical composition, and absorption.

Metabolic imaging such as spectroscopy and PET remain valuable tools whose information can guide clinical decision making. However, each suffer from drawbacks as discussed above and future work aimed at improving their sensitivity and specificity will enable better patient care.
